Cadalec have many successful years of developing and implementing SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) systems for a variety of customers from many diverse market sectors. We generally develop industrial control systems, where a computer system monitors and controls a process, but this process might be industrial, infrastructure or facility-based as described below:
- Industrial processes include those of manufacturing, food processing, production, power generation, fabrication, and refining, and may run in continuous, batch, repetitive, or discrete modes.
- Infrastructure processes may be public or private, and include water treatment and distribution, wastewater collection and treatment, oil and gas pipelines, electrical power transmission and distribution, Wind Farms, civil defence siren systems, and large communication systems.
- Facility processes occur both in public facilities and private ones, including buildings, airports, ships, and space stations. They monitor and control HVAC, access, and energy consumption.
Our SCADA Systems usually consist of the following subsystems:
- A Human-Machine Interface or HMI is the apparatus which presents process data to a human operator, and through this, the human operator monitors and controls the process.
- A supervisory (computer) system, gathering (acquiring) data on the process and sending commands (control) to the process. - Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) connecting to sensors in the process, converting sensor signals to digital data and sending digital data to the supervisory system. - Programmable Logic Controller (PLCs) used as field devices because they are more economical, versatile, flexible, and configurable than special-purpose RTUs. - Communication infrastructure connecting the supervisory system to the Remote Terminal Units.
At Cadalec, our many years of practical experience enable us to develop systems leveraging the extended knowledge of the software used to create reliable and cost-effective SCADA solutions.
Cadalec boasts a team of experienced system integrators and has produced a range of SCADA systems as well as many simpler Human Machine Interface (HMI) solutions, so we are well-placed to find the most efficient and cost-effective route for any given project.
When designing a project, we discuss and develop the software and hardware to ensure that we finish with a package that fits exactly with your needs.
The most common SCADA systems that Cadalec have developed include the following features:
- A Graphical User interface, Web, networked or stand-alone - Security - High Speed Data logging, Event logging, Historical data logging, Trending - Alarms - Recipes - Reporting, both inbuilt and bespoke - Language Translations - Communications with a wide range of PLC's - Scripting and ActiveX construction - Data Archiving and exporting data to other formats - Batching & Scheduling - Remote Viewing - Connections to SQL, Access etc databases, for data storage and retrieval - Linking with other applications such as MRP and SAP for proliferation of data. - Communications via OPC and IO Servers, both inbuilt and bespoke
Over the years we have developed and upgraded many systems, from the very large and complicated to the very small. Many customers will have a preference about the package that they would like to use, often based on what they are already comfortable with. But where we are asked to advise customers, we take a number of factors into account before suggesting which package to use. Among the many SCADA packages that we develop are the following:
Invensys - Wonderware GE Fanuc / Intellution - Fix / iFix GE - Proficy / Cimplicity Siemens - WinCC / PowerCC / ProTool Rockwell - FactoryTalk Iconics - Genesis32
As well as some of the older packages such as GeFICS and AFE.
For larger, or safety-critical systems, we are often also asked to develop a simulation system, to assist testing and to lessen the potential pitfalls when we reach the commissioning stage. For this, task we are equally at ease using the customer's choice or in suggesting our own.
At Cadalec, we always strive to provide a solution that meets or exceeds the customer's needs and expectations, within a budget that does neither.
We enjoy talking to real people, not just machines, so please contact us for a chat about SCADA or HMI, or just to find out a little more about what we do.
We are always pleased to help whenever we can.
